Privacy information

This page explains what happens to information when a browser opens lumenrec.com, who is responsible for it, and how a reader in Canada can exercise the rights given by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and by Québec law. It is in force since 2 September 2026 and applies to every page of this site.

1. Who is responsible

These pages are published by a private individual, not by a company:

The same person decides why and how any personal information connected with this site is handled and answers, in that capacity, as the person in charge of the protection of personal information within the meaning of the Québec Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (RLRQ c. P-39.1, as amended by Act 25).

2. What this site does not collect

There is no form anywhere on lumenrec.com: no field to type in, no newsletter, no account, no comment box and no upload. Nothing on these pages sends information about a reader to the operator or to any third party, and no script on the site profiles a visitor, follows a visitor across other websites or builds an advertising audience. There is no advertising on this site at all.

If you write to the e-mail address or telephone number above, your message and the address it came from reach the operator directly, because that is what sending a message means. That information is used only to answer you.

3. What is processed when a page is delivered

Delivering a web page is not a silent act. Two service providers stand between the file and the screen, and each of them records technical data in its own logs:

  • The hosting provider records the address requested, the date and time, the HTTP status, the amount of data sent, the referring address when a browser supplies one, and the user agent string identifying the browser and the operating system.
  • Cloudflare, Inc., used as a content delivery network and as protection against automated abuse, processes the same request data together with the IP address, the approximate country derived from it, and measurements of loading performance known as Core Web Vitals. Cloudflare may set its own service cookies for security and delivery and may add its own performance script to the delivered page; that behaviour belongs to the provider and is described on the cookie information page.

An IP address is personal information under Canadian law when it can be connected to an identifiable individual. The operator does not consult these logs to identify readers and has no tool on this site that would allow it.

4. Purposes and legal grounds

Technical processing described above serves three purposes only: delivering the requested pages, keeping the site available and defended against automated abuse, and diagnosing errors. Under PIPEDA this rests on the reasonable purposes a person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, together with the implied consent given by requesting a page. Under RLRQ c. P-39.1 it rests on the legitimate interest of the operator in serving a functioning website, which does not override the rights of the reader because no profile, no advertising and no commercial use is made of the data.

5. Cookies and local storage

This site sets no cookie of its own and runs no analytics of its own; Cloudflare, the delivery network, may add a performance script of its own, which sets no cookie. The only value written by these pages is a single browser key, lumen.cookiePref, kept in the local storage of your browser to remember whether you accepted or declined the information notice, so that the notice is not shown again on every visit. It contains no identifier, it is never read by any server, and clearing the site data in your browser removes it. Cookies that may be set by Cloudflare are listed on the cookie information page.

6. Electronic messages

No commercial electronic message is sent from this site. There is no mailing list to join, and no address is bought, sold or shared. If the operator replies to a message you sent, that reply is a private answer to your own request and not a commercial message within the meaning of Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL, S.C. 2010, c. 23).

7. Transfers outside Canada

The hosting infrastructure and the Cloudflare network operate on servers located in several countries, so technical log data may be processed outside Québec and outside Canada, including in the United States and in the European Union. Before entrusting that work to these providers, the operator assessed the framework applying to them as required by RLRQ c. P-39.1: the providers act on documented instructions under their own data processing terms, use standard contractual protections for international transfers, and are contractually barred from using the data for their own purposes. A reader who wishes to see how that assessment was made may ask for it in writing.

8. How long data is kept

Server and network logs are kept in rolling form for a short technical period, ordinarily not more than thirty days, after which they are overwritten by the providers. Messages sent to the editorial e-mail address are kept for as long as the exchange is useful and in any case no longer than twenty-four months, then deleted. The browser key described in section 5 stays on your own device until you clear it. No archive of readers is built anywhere.

9. Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection, the pages are static files with no database behind them, and there is no login, no shopping basket and no stored reader record that could be exposed. Access to the hosting account and to the editorial mailbox is protected by strong authentication held by the operator alone. No security measure is perfect, and this page does not claim otherwise.

10. Your rights

Under PIPEDA and under Québec law a person in Canada may, with respect to information concerning them:

  • ask whether information about them is held, and obtain access to it;
  • ask for the correction of information that is inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous;
  • ask for information to be deleted where it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for;
  • revoke a consent previously given, subject to legal or contractual limits;
  • ask for an explanation of the reasoning behind any decision based exclusively on automated processing — there is none on this site;
  • complain about the way information has been handled.

Requests go to the operator by e-mail or by post at the address in section 1. An answer is given within thirty days, free of charge, after reasonable verification of the identity of the person making the request. Because this site keeps no reader record, the honest answer to most access requests is that nothing is held beyond the short technical logs of the providers.

11. Complaints

If the operator’s answer is unsatisfactory, a complaint may be filed with the federal or the provincial authority:

12. Readers who are minors

These pages are written for adults who choose games for themselves and are not directed at children. The operator does not knowingly handle information about a person under 13 years of age. In Québec, where consent is required from a person under 14 years of age, it must be given by the holder of parental authority; since this site collects nothing through its pages, that situation does not arise in practice.

13. Changes to this page

If the way this site works changes — a new provider, a new technical component — this page is updated before the change takes effect and the date at the top of the page is moved forward. Earlier versions are kept by the operator and may be requested by e-mail.
